cheesy bread, cheesy garlic bread, pull apart bread, easy recipes, holiday recipesNow onto the cheesy bread. Oh goodnessss, this is just a staple item for comfort holiday food. Hot & toasty, ooey & gooey, cheesy, & garlicky…just NOM NOM NOM!! I have to credit one of my besties for introducing me to pull apart bread. Years ago, we had Friendsgiving at her place, and that is where I was fortunate enough to cross paths with cheesy pull apart bread. And the rest is history!

This is one of those recipes, you can just about use anything and it is bound to be delicious. You can use any type of cheese, any combinations of spices, as much or as little butter, whatever amount of garlic and any loaf of bread. The measurements in this recipe are meant to be a guideline, but I have modified it in various ways over the years and it never disappoints. Get creative here! Serve with some cilantro-mint chutney for an extra dose of fancy!

Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread

Holiday comfort food, oozing with cheesy and garlic goodness. Easy and versatile, can be tailored to all taste buds.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread sourdough loaf, italian loaf both work well

Garlic Butter:

  • 6 tbsps butter softened
  • 3 large garlic cloves minced (or 1 tablespoon of bottled minced garlic + additional for garnish)
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Cracked black pepper to taste
  • Sprinkle of garlic power for an extra kick of garlic!
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese mexican cheese blend works really well with this too!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. In a medium bowl, heat butter in the microwave until melted (about 20-30 seconds). Remove from microwave and mix in minced garlic, oregano, basil, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt, cracked black pepper and add a sprinkle of garlic powder.

  3. Using a sharp knife, cut the bread diagonally into rows across the top. Cut about 1-1.5 inches through the bread, being careful not to cut all the way through to the bottom. Next, cut rows in the other direction (repeating the same step as before, just on the other side). Once you cut in the other direction, you will see diamond shaped pieces form.
  4. Drizzle a spoonful of the garlic butter in between each wedge, making sure to get minced garlic into each wedge or as many wedges as possible. Next stuff cheese into each little wedge making sure you do not miss one - you will be glad you did this! You will use about half to a little more than half of the garlic butter during this step.
  5. Drizzle remaining garlic butter over the top of the bread and top with additional seasonings (I sprinkled oregano, parsley and black pepper on top). You can also go in and stuff a bit more of minced garlic into each wedge, depending on your affinity for garlic! Also, adding additional seasonings on top gives the cheese an extra kick of flavor!
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 15 mins, or until cheese has started to melt.
  7. Uncover and bake for additional 10 minutes or until bread is starting to slightly brown and cheese has melted throughly.
  8. Remove and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • this is a very versatile recipe, you can use more or less butter, more or less minced garlic, any combination of spices you like and you can use whichever cheese blends you prefer! Any meltable cheese will work well with this recipe. I find that mozzarella cheese tastes the best with this recipe, but that is just my preference!
