Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

Smooth, Decadent, Creamy, Luscious
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 3 cups milk I used 2%
  • 2 cups heavy cream 1 pint
  • 2 tbsps premium quality cocoa powder I used Trader Joe’s brand, quite good!!
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tbsps premium quality semi sweet chocolate chips I used Ghirardelli
  • 2 tsps sugar
  • 2 tsps pure vanilla extract
  • 4-5 drops of red food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk and heavy cream and bring to a boil.
  2. Add in cocoa powder, chocolate chips and sugar. Continue to whisk until smooth. Next add in vanilla extract and mix. Lastly, add in red food coloring and stir to incorporate. Let simmer for ~1-2 minutes.
  3. Pour into mugs & serve with marshmallows & whipped cream!

Recipe Notes

  • Be sure to use good quality chocolate chips & cocoa powder. It will add to the richness of the hot chocolate!
  • Be sure to taste and add in more sugar as desired. I have the measurements as a guide. I preferred a little bit more chocolate chips, which is why you see 1/4 cup + 2 tbsps (LOL)
  • As the hot chocolate comes to a boil, it will start to develop a film on top, just continue to whisk and bring the heat down a bit.
