Green Goddess Smoothie

For a while now, I have been blending smoothies for breakfast. Smoothies are the perfect pick me up in the morning, a post work out drink, or really whenever you feel like having one. The one thing I dislike about the morning smoothie prep?? The mess! The clean up! The thawing! I’m constantly searching for new ways to be extra efficient in the morning. I have even tried prepping my smoothies the night before. But at some point mid week, I get tired of it and fall off the smoothie habit.

It wasn’t until, I was browsing Pinterest (sense a common theme here?) and came across a game changer….DIY Smoothie Freezer Packs!! Seriously, what a neat idea! Whoever thought of this, whoever you are….KUDOS! I applaud you!

So what exactly is a smoothie freezer pack? Basically, you fill a ziplock bag (any storage bag will do) with your choice of smoothie ingredients such as fruits, veggies, seeds and then freeze it! The next morning, you simply add a liquid of your choice, such as water to a blender, add in the contents of the bag, and you have yourself a quick and easy smoothie, with no clean up required! And the best part you can fill these bags ahead of time for the entire week!!

Of course, I jumped on this freezer smoothie bag idea. One of my favorite go to smoothie recipes is this one. The tartness of the pineapples combined with the sweetness of the mangos is just divine!  I swear, you do not even taste the spinach in this smoothie! You can dress this smoothie up many different ways. I like to add part water and part coconut water to it. However, I have used only water and it tastes just as delicious! I have even tried using flavored seltzer water for an extra bubbly taste!

Do this!! Try it out!! You will thank yourself in the morning!

  • 1 cup frozen mangos
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapples
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 1 1/2 cup packed spinach
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup coconut water

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients except the liquids into a ziplock storage bag. Store bags in the freezer until ready for use.
  2. To use a smoothie bag, add 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of coconut water to a blender, followed by the smoothie bag contents. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Recipe Notes

  • Depending on your taste & texture preferences, adjust the liquids as necessary. I like a thick, creamy smoothie!
  • Feel free to add a sweetener of your choice if you prefer. 1 tbsp of honey works well with this recipe!
